Shankar Basu to resume India duties as fitness coach after Virat Kohli, Anil Kumble's nod

ICC Champions Trophy: Shankar Basu is known to have introduced the Indian team to the latest methods such as Dexa Scan, load monitoring app, and Yo Yo training after joining the side in June 2015

Shankar Basu, India’s strength and fitness conditioning coach had resigned from his post five months back. But with the backing of captain Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble, it seems Shankar Basu is all set to make it back to the Indian dressing room for the ICC Champions Trophy and take it from there. Earlier, Shankar Basu had taken a break from the team after the Chennai Test against England last December owing to certain business and family reasons.

Basu let us remind you has worked very closely with Virat Kohli in order to help him raise his fitness levels, which is evident now. He also helped Umesh Yadav stay injury-free and helped him bowl faster than ever before. It is believed that he also played a pivotal role in Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravichandran Ashwin’s upgrade when it came to fitness and strength.

Infact, Basu is also known to have introduced the Indian team to the latest methods such as Dexa Scan, load monitoring app, and Yo Yo training after joining the side in June 2015. That helped and the results are there for one and all to see.

With India playing back to back tournaments and with a jam-packed schedule it seems it is the right move to get Basu onboard ahead of the mini world cup and the West Indies tour.

With IPL ending this month then Basu will be up to train the cadres as they go in the quest to England to defend their crown which they won way back in 2013.
