The eighth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy kickstarted as expected where Bangladesh took on the hosts, England, in the first match of Group A. This match was already speculated to be a crucial face-off as Bangladesh performed extremely well in the practice match against Pakistan but they ended up landing on the losing side. And today in the first game at Kennington Oval, London, opener Tamil Iqbal continued his form and smashed the English bowlers and punished them hard scoring a magnificent hundred and becoming the highest run scorer for Bangladesh in Champions Trophy.

In the first game against England, Tamim Iqbal smashed a wonderful knock of 128 off 148 balls and hit 3 sixes and 12 fours. Tamim surpassed Shahriar Nafees who scored 123 and remained not out in the 2006 edition of the Champions Trophy against Zimbabwe on October 13. Tamim’s today’s ton also became the century number 41 in the Champions Trophy tournament.

Earlier today, Eoin Morgan won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first. The opening pair of Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar added a total of 56 runs for the first wicket. Tamim played the much important inning in the opening match and after his dismissal, Musfiqur Rahim took the charge and played a knock of 79 runs off 72 balls with hitting 8 boundaries. Bangladesh played an outstanding cricket and by the end of 50 overs, they managed to put 305 runs on the scoreboard after losing 6 wickets.

This rubber between both the teams is also assumed to be a crucial game especially from the English point of view as this is a fair chance for them to take revenge of their loss in the 2015 edition of world cup which let them out of the tournament and took Bangladesh into the quarterfinals. However, Bangladesh then lost against India in the next game.
