Breaking: Virat Kohli named Wisden's Leading Cricketer in the World for 2016

Wisden: Virat Kohli has amassed 1215 Test runs at a great average of 75.93 last year & in the ten ODI appearances he scored 739 runs at 92.37

Virat Kohli, who enjoyed a maverick run of form in the recently concluded home season, has been named by Wisden’s Leading Cricketer in the World for 2016, adding another feather to his already crowded cap. He had earlier also won the Polly Umrigar trophy as well. Virat Kohli has amassed 1215 Test runs at a great average of 75.93 last year and in the ten ODI appearances he scored 739 runs at 92.37, while he scored 641 T20 International runs at 106.83.

That is surreal in terms of numbers.

“Virat Kohli, who features on the cover of the 2017 edition of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, is also the Leading Cricketer in the World for 2016, an accolade put in place in 2003 when Ricky Ponting became the first honouree,” Wisden announced.

Currently, Virat Kohli is recovering from a shoulder injury that kept him out of the Dharamsala decider against Australia. A series India won 2-1.

Two Pakistani cricketers – Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan – have also been named in the list of the five Cricketers of the Year for the first time since 1997.

The entire nation is currently praying for the quick recovery of Virat Kohli, who is set to miss the first half of the Indian Premier League.
