Arjun Tendulkar selected in MCA Colts team to play in Police Invitation Cricket Shield tournament

Arjun Tendulkar was recently seen bowling to Virat Kohli and other batsmen in the nets ahead of the Wankhede ODI against New Zealand

Arjun Tendulkar has been named in Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Colts team which will lock horns with Karnataka Sporting Association. The tournament will be starting from October 28. Arjun will be playing his next match against Payyade Sports Club starting November 11. He will be playing under Pranav Menon who is leading the 15-member MCA Colts squad. The 18-year-old recently made headlines when he bowled to Team India batsmen before the first ODI at Wankhede against New Zealand. He helped Virat Kohli & Co. and others to prepare for left-arm seamer Trent Boult.

The previous match Arjun played was against Baroda in Under-19 Vinoo Mankad trophy. Though Tendulkar Jr. could not impress in the previous fixtures as he scored just 2 runs with the bat and picked up a wicket for 21 runs in his 2-over spell (according to scoring sheet). In another game against Saurashtra he remained wicket-less in a spell of 4 overs and leaked 41 runs.

Arjun impressed Kohli with his speed and also received a few tips from him. India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun too can be seen giving a few tips to Arjun in a Star Sports video. In another video, Arjun was seen bowling a bouncer to Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan. The short ball caught Dhawan by surprise as he could not time his pull shot.

Arjun has been under the limelight like any other kid of a cricketing great. Sachin Tendulkar does not want media and others to create pressure on his son. Though there has been much criticism following his selection in the past. According to Times of India an MCA official said, “He (Arjun Tendulkar) was included in the Mumbai under-19 team after doing well in the trial matches. It’s unfair to target him just because he’s the son of a famous father,”.
