Andhra's Huge Win Over Nagaland (Kinda) Broke A 11-Year Record In T20 Cricket

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has never been this interesting

Andhra registered a huge win over Nagaland yesterday by beating them by a margin of 179 runs. At the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019, the clash between the two teams turned out to be pretty one-sided. Andhra’s biggest T20 win ended up entering the record books as it was able to beat Sri Lanka team’s 11-year-record in T20 cricket.

On September 14, 2017, Sri Lanka won against Kenya by a margin of 172 runs. Sri Lanka’s long-standing record seemed to be that one record everyone expects to be unbreakable. But Andhra’s all-round performance helped them not just break the record, but also surpass it.

The T20 clash turned out to be completely one-sided with Andhra batsmen completely dominating Nagaland bowlers right from the start. Ricky Bhui, who is also a Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) player, scored his maiden T20 century. He also became the joint fourth fastest Indian to score  a century T20s.

Bhui’s innings of 108 came off just 42 deliveries including 5 fours and 10 sixes. Apart from him, Girinath Reddy scored a half-century (62 runs off 31 deliveries) and skipper Hanuma Vihari’s contributed with 44 to a total of 244.

In response, Nagaland couldn’t chase the target. They were bundled out for 65 with just two batsmen scoring in double digits. Andhra bowlers KV Sasikanth, SK Ismail and Karn Sharma picked up three wickets each, helping the team break the world record.

However, Sri Lanka’s record is safe as far as T20 internationals are concerned as no team has come even close to breaking the record.
