On the 10th of July 2017, pilgrims returning from the iconic Amarnath yatra were attacked by 3 terrorists, who managed to kill 7 pilgrims and injure 15. This is an attack that is being condemned from all across the globe. Intelligence reports suggest that LeT and Hizbul is behind the attacks. Most are opining that this attack was executed to stir up communal tension in India and the masterminds are from across the border. The last registered terror attack on the Amarnath Yatra was the killing of 30 persons, mostly pilgrims, in the base camp in Pahalgam in 2000. It is grave that terrorists are now stooping down to levels to attack pilgrims, who have the intention of taking blessings from the almighty. The ill-fated pilgrims had performed the yatra and had boarded the bus at north Kashmir’s Baltal base camp.
“The attack occurred at 8.20 p.m. All yatra movement which is protected by the security forces on the highway stops at 7 p.m. after which no movement of pilgrims is officially allowed,” said a senior police officer.
“After retaliation from the police, the militants started firing indiscriminately. The bus of pilgrims, according to police, was caught the ambush,” a police spokesman said.
But our primary focus is how our Indian ex-cricketers have reacted to this development. They deserve a salute for behaving like good ambassadors. Like always, Virender Sehwag took to Twitter to express his concern over the incident, he tweeted, “Deep condolences to family of those killed on pilgrimage of #AmarnathYatra Requires shamelessness of another level 2 kill innocent pilgrims.”

Sehwag also did not hold back in touting the culprits as ‘shameless’. That is how Sehwag like to play, on the front foot.
Former fast bowler RP Singh was also not shy of words, he too took to Twitter and expressed his concern, he tweeted, Attack on the pilgrims is disheartening. Condolences to the families. May Lord shiva give you strength. #harharmahadev#AmarnathYatra.”
