Ahmed Shehzad learns to catch it like Hardik Pandya, takes a one-handed stunner at long on — WATCH

Ahmed Shehzad also scored a 50 off just 21 balls for Lahore Blues which got them off to a good start in the first innings against Peshawar

Ahmed Shehzad has been often trolled for his fitness standards. But, Shehzad has managed to silence them with just one effort in Pakistan’s National T20 Cup. The 25-year-old took a one-handed stunner at long on and surprised everyone with his agility in the outfield, something for which he is not known for.

In a match between Lahore Blues and Peshawar Shehzad was fielding at the long on when batsman Musadiq Ahmed struck offspinner Agha Salman for a big shot. Musadiq could not time the ball well as it hung up in the air, just wide of the long on fielder towards the wide on region.

Shehzad saw the opportunity and ran towards his right. The ball was travelling fast and was about to touch the ground when Shehzad dived to his right. He got his right hand to the ball and managed to hold on it when his body made contact with the ground.

Here’s the video of Shehzad’s catch –

The commentator of the domestic T20 Cup termed this catch as the ‘catch of the tournament’. Shehzad did not just excel in the fielding department. Often criticised for scoring slow in the T20 format, the opening batsman took on the bowlers in powerplays and scored 50 runs from 22 balls, his 32nd T20 fifty.

He struck 9 fours and 1 six scoring at a strike rate of 227.27. Thanks to his batting effort, Lahore Blues posted a total of 173 for 6. Seems like Shehzad’s catch really did the trick for his team as Peshawar lost by a margin of just 3 runs as they got bundled out with just one ball to spare in the runchase.
