After MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, biopic on Jhulan Goswami announced

The director of the film, Susanta Das, hopes that Jhulan Goswami's life story would inspire many youngsters. The shooting will start from April 2018

Till now cricket fans across the world have seen Jhulan Goswami’s pace attack on the cricket field and admired her a lot. However, many of them are unaware of the story behind her evolution as the highest wicket taking female bowler in the ODIs. After a huge success of the biopic of MS Dhoni and the Sachin Tendulkar docu-drama, a film on the life events of Jhulan was announced on September 19.

As learned from a PTI report, the film will be titled ‘Chakdaha Express’. The film will trace the journey of Jhulan from her hometown in Nadia district to Lord’s where India narrowly lost the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup final to England. The movie will be made in Hindi and director Susanta Das said they will start the scripting soon with the shoot to begin in April next year.

While speaking to PTI, Susanta Das confirmed the making of the film but didn’t reveal much. The news agency quoted him as saying,

Shooting will be held from Chakdaha to Lord’s. I cannot tell you the names as they are yet to be signed. But we are in talks with leading Bollywood actresses.

The director hoped that it would inspire many youngsters. “We have seen MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar’s biopics. But this will be the first biopic on women’s cricket,” Das said.

He added,

We will send our crew to wherever Jhulan has played. The focus will be her journey, the odds she overcame since she was 10. Hope it will inspire and motivate millions of youngsters. It’s about chasing your dream.

Having debuted in 2002 against England, Jhulan is currently the leading wicket-taker in women’s cricket with 195 wickets in 164 matches. Her performance was outstanding in the 2017 women’s World Cup. She bowled phenomenally in the finals against England and picked 3 wickets. However, despite a good batting performance, India lost the game by 9 runs and missed the chance to script history.
