BCCI Awards: Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah, Deepti & Punam Raut Win Top Awards

Jemimah Rodrigues is the only woman cricketer on the list to win the award in consecutive years

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the list of players who’ll receive the annual BCCI Awards on Thursday, June 7 which are scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on June 12. The awards ‘recognise and honour the best Indian international and domestic cricketers of the past year’.

This year, the focus will be on Virat Kohli receiving the Polly Umrigar Award for the period 2016-17 and 2017-18. Women cricketers will also receive awards for their brilliant performance in the previous two years. The women’s cricket has seen a drastic change after World Cup 2017 in England.

Here’s the list of current women cricketers who will receive the awards on June 12 —

Best international cricketer (2016-17) — Harmanpreet Kaur
Best international cricketer (2017-18) — Smriti Mandhana
Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy – Best Woman Cricketer (Sr. Domestic, 2016-17) — Punam Raut
Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy – Best Woman Cricketer (Sr. Domestic, 2017-18) — Deepti Sharma
Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy – Best Woman Cricketer (Jr. Domestic, 2016-17) — Jemimah Rodrigues
Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy – Best Woman Cricketer (Jr. Domestic, 2017-18) — Jemimah Rodrigues

Harmanpreet and Smriti Mandhana will receive Rs 15 lakhs each whereas the winners of domestic circuit will receive Rs 1.5 lakh each. The winners in international cricket will also receive a citation and a trophy whereas domestic circuit winners will receive a trophy.

Harmanpreet is currently leading India in T20Is in Women’s Asia Cup T20. She has been consistent with her performance in both ODIs and T20Is. Her record-breaking knock of 171 is the highlight of World Cup 2017.

Mandhana made a terrific comeback after recovering from an injury and scored two centuries in World Cup 2017. She followed them with performances in South Africa. She proved to be a pillar of strength in India’s top order in the previous year.

Punam Raut and Deepti Sharma too did well in both domestic and international circuit. The duo even shared the highest-ever opening partnership in ODI cricket in 2017.

Jemimah Rodrigues made her way to the international squad after her outstanding consistency and ability to score big in games at a young age. She even has a double hundred in domestic cricket, becoming only the second Indian to do so after Mandhana.
