Adam Voges gets banned for one match in BBL 2017-18, Mitchell Johnson says, 'What a joke'!

Adam Voges will miss the next match of Perth Scorchers against Adelaide Strikers in Big Bash League 2017 on January 13

Former Australian cricketer and Perth Scorchers skipper Adam Voges has been banned for one match in the ongoing Big Bash League 2017-18 for slow-over rate. In the previous match against Sydney Thunders, the defending champions were one over short of the norm and exceeded the number of strikes in this season which resulted in Voges getting suspended for one match.

Also, all the players of Perth Scorchers will get fined $1,000 for the offence, the amount will be halved to $500 if they accept the charges without appeal. But it seems like that’s not going to happen as former Australian cricketer and Perth Scorchers frontline bowler Mitchell Johnson posted a tweet disagreeing with the decision.

Not just Voges, Hobart Hurricanes skipper George Bailey has been handed a fine as well. The left-arm fast bowler did not react well to this news either. Here’s what Johnson tweeted:

Bailey is not the only captain who has been handed one strike in this season. Sydney Thunders captain Shane Watson, Melbourne Stars captain John Hastings and Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques were already on the list.

The ban on Voges means that he will not be playing in the match against Adelaide Strikes on January 13. Perth Scorchers fell short of 3 runs in their previous match against Sydney Thunders in a nail-biter of the match.

Johnson has been in fine form this season, he gave away just 25 runs in 4 overs. He could not take a wicket which helped Sydney Thunders post a total of 175 for 4 with Usman Khawaja scoring a magnificent 85 runs from 51 balls.

Perth Scorchers’ batting lineup did not come out all guns blazing and lost four batsmen in single digits including Voges who scored only 1 run. Cameron Bancroft (75 runs from 56 balls) and Hilton Cartwright’s (65 runs from 41 balls)  half-centuries took their team close but not over the target. They shared an unbeaten partnership of 137 runs for the fourth wicket.
