South Africa’s batting mainstay AB de Villiers has announced retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. De Villiers stunned the world by posting a video on his Twitter account, announcing that he will not be playing any form of international cricket. It also comes as a shock as everyone expected de Villiers to play in ICC World Cup 2019 in England. Filling the void of a batsman like him will be a daunting task for Cricket South Africa.

The Proteas batsman has played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is. He has scored 8765, 9577 and 1672 runs respectively in all the three formats. He averages more than 50 in Tests and ODIs. Mr 360 degree has 47 international centuries and 109 half-centuries to his name.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018, De Villiers scored 480 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 12 matches, including six half-centuries. He thanked RCB supporters for their support as well as they got knocked out of the tournament in their last league game.

The 34-year-old thanked his fans in South Africa and all over the world. He did not ask for a farewell match from Cricket South Africa. He also said that he will continue to play for Titans in domestic cricket and won’t run after money playing in leagues around the world.
