When SC/ST Police Recruits Were 'Marked' On The Basis Of Their Castes

Newly recruited police constables in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh had their castes written on their chests.

A police recruitment drive in Madhya Pradesh triggered furore after candidates were segregated on the basis of their caste. Reserved category constables who went through a medical test had their castes marked on their chests. It happened at Dhar district hospital in Madhya Pradesh where 200 newly recruited constables were examined by doctors who were taking their height, weight and chest measurements.

The authorities, however, said there was no “ill-will” as the constables were marked just to ‘avoid confusion’.None of the ‘marked’ candidates registered a complaint. But photos of the episode went viral after it was leaked to local media and a probe was ordered on Sunday.
