Veteran writer and father of Salman Khan, Salim Khan has taken to Twitter to talk about the real meaning of fatwa. Khan posted a series of tweets in the light of the alleged fatwa which was issued against a 16-year-old singer, Nahid Afrin recently. Over 40 clerics from Muslim organisations issued the “fatwa” against the singer not to perform at a function scheduled for March 25.
In his posts, Khan has tried to clarify why fatwa is not a ‘judgement’ or a ‘verdict’ but just an opinion. He also took a moment to mention how the ones issuing this so-called fatwa should not be addressed as ‘clerics’ by media and others.
Nahid was issued a fatwa on 15 March by 46 Muslim ‘clerics’ in Assam, restricting her to perform on stage, saying that the performance by a girl on stage was against the “Sharia laws”. The clerics’ organisation had also distributed some leaflets in and around Udali area near Hojai in central Assam. However, Nahid seemed unperturbed by the disturbance and said that her talent of music is a blessing of God. Her statement read like:
I was broken completely after hearing about the “fatwa”. But I am not going to stop singing. I have received hundreds of calls and messages from the people of Assam and different organisations supporting me.”
Commenting on the matter today, Salim Khan posted:
Prophet Mohd during his lifetime had nvr given Fatwa on any issue.These so called clerics are a huge embarassment to the followers of islam

Several other Bollywood celebs too came in support of Nahid after the unfortunate incident including Farhan Akhtar, Swara Bhaskar, Dia Mirza, Vivek Oberoi and Daisy Shah among others.
The young singer shot to fame after she made her debut in Bollywood with 2016 Sonakshi Sinha starrer Akira.
