Supreme Court Declares Homosexuality Isn't A Crime, Twitter Swipes Right

Pronouncing the judgment, the apex court ruled that an individual has no control over their sexual orientation

The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a historic judgment by declaring that homosexuality is no longer a crime. Pronouncing the judgment, the apex court ruled that an individual has no control over their sexual orientation.

The apex court overruled its own 2013 verdict that pronounced homosexuality as a crime under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The 158-year-old colonial law under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was finally partially struck down by a constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Mishra. The bench stressed on the other aspects of Section 377, dealing with unnatural sex with animals and children, which will still remain in force.

As soon as the judgment was announced, Twitter exploded as people applauded the historic ruling.
