IPS Abhijit Saptarishi, 37 has earned the title of the ‘Policeman of the Year’ in Tripura for his dedicated work to curb down crime in the state’s western region.
Superintendent of Police, Saptarshi is an IPS officer of 2008 batch and hails from Mumbai.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar handed the award to Saptarshi at a function on the occasion of the Tripura Police Week — 2017 “for his outstanding performance in dealing with crime and other law and order situation”.
According to police officials, districts in West and North Tripura have performed well in dealing with interstate and domestic crimes, which also includes treating political quandaries and agitations.
The NCRB reports that altogether 5,347 crimes of different nature were registered with police as against 6,537 crimes in the previous year.
“FIR’s and complaints has reduced down by 16 per cent during 2016, as compared to 2015,” said DGP K Nagaraj during a press meet.
He further added that “in the detailed analysis it is noticed that 17 per cent of property related crime, 21 per cent of crime against women cases and 14 per cent of motor accident cases have been reduced compared to last year. No fresh incidents of militant activity were reported and thirty-one extremists have also surrendered in the past two years.”
SP Saptarshi, who holds a Master’s degree in Science for Urban Policy, innovated his strategies from 2014 to stiffly reduce the crime rate in West Tripura.
Also, Sub-inspector Budhu Debbarma of Tripura police in Unakoti district, received the Best Investigator’s Award.
