Half Girlfriend vs Hindi Medium Box Office: Irrfan Khan's comedy beats Arjun Kapoor's drama in second week

Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor's Half Girlfriend might have earned more than Hindi Medium till now, but Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar starrer is giving a stiff fight at the Box Office

Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s Half Girlfriend is going steady at the Box Office despite getting mixed to negative reviews from the critics. The cinematic adaption of Chetan Bhagat’s bestselling novel of the same name has raked in Rs 52.96 crore. On the other hand, Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar starrer Hindi Medium has witnessed a stupendous response and has garnered Rs 32.24 crore at the Box Office.

Now, here’s something that will bring cheers to the makers of Hindi Medium. The second Saturday collections of the comedy film were twice the money earned by Half Girlfriend. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Half Girlfriend earned Rs 2.01 crore whereas Hindi Medium witnessed collections worth Rs 4.21 crore in the second week. In fact, the love story of a Bihari boy and Delhi girl registered collections worth Rs 1.76 crore as compared to the film mocking the admission chaos having earned Rs 2.82 crore on second Friday.

If the current scenario continues, Hindi Medium will turn out to be a sleeper hit. The film that also features Deepak Dobriyal has received favourable reviews from the critics.

It is a story about a couple’s struggles to get their daughter admitted to a private English medium school in the national capital. The Saket Chaudhary directorial has already been declared tax-free in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Both the films are unfazed by the release of Sachin: A Billion Dreams that released on Friday. The film featuring batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has earned Rs 17.90 crore within three days of its theatrical release.

Directed by Mohit Suri, Half Girlfriend also features Vikrant Massey, Rhea Chakraborty and Seema Biswas. It has been produced by Ekta Kapoor-owned Balaji Motion Pictures, Mohit Suri and Chetan Bhagat.
