Dangal 1st weekend Box Office collection: The Aamir Khan film beats Salman Khan's Sultan

Salman Khan starrer Sultan had recorded the highest weekend collection at the Box Office but Aamir Khan's Dangal has snatched the top slot now

Dangal has crossed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark at the Box Office. Without any surprise, the Aamir Khan starrer has achieved the whopping amount in its first weekend with the total India business of the film standing at Rs 106. 95 crore after three days. The growth of the film is exceptional as Sunday recorded the highest growth by raking in Rs 42. 35 crore at the Box Office.

This is phenomenal and a much-required success for a Bollywood film at the Box Office as this year particularly remained quite low for Hindi films at ticket windows. Dangal is only the second Hindi film after Salman Khan starrer Sultan to have collected Rs 100 crore at the Box Office over the weekend. The Nitesh Tiwari directorial has enjoyed a tremendous word of mouth success. Having been released in over 4300 screens in the country, Dangal has been ruling both the multiplexes and the single screens.

The total day-wise domestic Box Office breakup of Dangal is as follows:

  • Friday: Rs 29. 78 crore
  • Saturday: Rs 34. 82 crore
  • Sunday: Rs 42. 35 crore

The film is now Aamir Khan’s fifth in the row back-to-back entry to Rs 100 crore club. The success run for Aamir started in 2008 with Ghajini, followed by 3 Idiots, Dhoom 3, PK and now Dangal. All of the Aamir Khan films in last 10 years have provided Bollywood reasons to rejoice.

Dangal beats Sultan

Dangal has now beaten Sultan to have recorded the highest first weekend ever at the Box Office for any Hindi film. The film has collected Rs 106. 95 crore while Sultan had minted Rs 105. 55 crore in its opening weekend at the Box Office. This is huge as Salman was ruling the highest first-weekend club by taking all the top three slots on the list. His Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo had collected Rs 101. 42 crore and 97. 63 crore, respectively, in its first weekend.

What has worked in favour of Dangal?

Apart from being an Aamir Khan film, offering a universal content has done wonders for the film, Dangal shows emotions and has a father-daughter relationship story at its heart. It also deals with issues like gender equality and encouraging women in sports in India. Backed by good music, Dangal also talks about nationalism and patriotism in its true sense.
