After Bengaluru molestation, trekkers celebrating new year's at Lonavla stripped, thrashed

The trekkers from Mumbai and Pune were made to chant slogans and raise saffron flags.

After mass molestation of women in Bengaluru during New Year’s eve celebrations, Thane seems to have jumped onto the bandwagon as well. These trekkers from Pune and Mumbai were manhandled, groped and stripped naked by self proclaimed bhakts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at a fort in Lonavla.

In addition to being molested they were also forced to hold saffron flags and chant slogans like ‘Jai Shivani, Jai Bhavani’. Pune-based fitness trainer Shalini Pallavi Jhala suffered a fracture in her right arm.

Speaking to a media house, Shalini said that she looked up the Internet, and found a travel website ‘Life Away From Life’ that had details about the camp at Visapur Fort. Looking for a quieter and comparatively lesser crowded place to ring in the new year, she made the bookings for her husband’s colleagues Nilesh Vaidya and Priyanka and their spouses.

Shalini approached the area SP Jadhav and registered a case against the harrasment and molestation. Cases such as these have increased over the years and have made new year’s a dreaded event.

The fact that such cases are coming in from different cities only goes on to prove hooliganism is not limited to cities and crimes against women are on the rise in the whole country. Maybe indeed this is not a state problem, but an India problem.
