Why this Tamil Nadu teacher begs before his students

A government teacher in Tamil Nadu has found a unique way of tackling absenteeism of students in the school. Every weekend, 56-year-old G Balu visits his students’ homes and pleads before them with folded hands.

“I am ready to fell down and touch the feet of students for their better future,” Balu told InUth in an interview. Balu started this practice three years ago when he was posted in Chingleput area of Kanchipuram district in Tamil Nadu. Currently, Balu teaches at a higher secondary school in state’s Villupuram district.

Most of his students belong to the poor SC/ST community and that’s one of the reasons Balu empathizes with the irregularity of students at school.
According to Balu, he wants students to realize that only way for their progress is through education.
