This Bengaluru Startup Is Making Rockets That You Can Buy & Fly

The founders hope they can make model rocketry more accessible to youngsters across the country

‘Reaching for the stars’ may no longer be restricted to just a metaphor these days. A Bengaluru-based startup, Rocketeers, is making the dreams of space enthusiasts come true with their commercially-available model rockets.

The company was co-founded by Divyanshu Poddar and Akash Ekka, both alumni of the Indian Institute of Space Technology (IIST), Trivandrum. Capable of flying between 300 to 900 feet in open areas, the model rockets are not made with any metallic parts and is powered by black powder and ammonium perchlorate composite propellant.

Rocketeers have five different types of model rockets and they are priced between Rs 800 and Rs 3,000. One of the biggest hurdles the duo had to overcome was the commercialisation of model rockets. After years of conducting model rocket-building workshops, the company applied for a commercial licence towards 2016-end.

The founders hope they can make model rocketry more accessible to youngsters across the country.
