The Mizo Boy Who Tried To Save A Chicken Has Won PETA Award & We Are Going Awww!

Earlier this month, a viral post on a Mizoram boy who tried to save an injured chicken left most netizens teary-eyed.

Six-year-old Derek C Lalchhanhima, is again making headlines again after PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) India, an NGO working for animal rights, bestowed him with “Compassionate Kid Award”.

Earlier this month, a photo of Derek holding an injured chicken in one hand and a 10 rupee note in the other had gone viral. He had mistakenly run his bicycle over his neighbour’s chicken and realising that it has been injured rushed to a nearby hospital.

The post was shared on Facebook by a user named Sangma says. The boy won the love and praise from netizens. Soon Derek became an internet sensation and was even felicitated at his school in Mizoram.

PETA India’s Compassionate Citizen programme is specially designed to help students between the ages of 8 and 12 better understand and appreciate animals.
