Thailand's King Marries His Former Security Chief, Appoints Her Queen

In a move that has surprised royal observers, Thailand King Maha Vajiralongkorn married his personal bodyguard days before his official coronation. Vajiralongkorn, 66, aka King Rama X married Suthida Tidjai on April 30, a former deputy commander of his bodyguard unit. Formerly a flight attendant with Thai Airways, Suthida was appointed a general in the Royal Thai Army in 2016. Vajiralongkorn also gave her the title, Thanpuying, a royal title meaning ‘Lady’.
