Now, Telangana Has A Free Ambulance Service For Drunkards

A social activist in Telangana has come to become the saviour of drunkards in the city.

Avula Gopal Reddy has converted his car into an ‘ambulance’ to ferry habitual drunks to their respective homes free of cost. The intention is to prevent accidents and imprisonment of drunkards.

Reddy is also against the penalizing of habitual drinkers by the law enforcement authorities. According to him, police should desist from levying heavy fines on drunk locals and sending them to jail.

“Whoever needs the service after finishing their drinks at a permit room in a wine shop or a bar, they can give a call to my number 9848867779. I will send the ambulance to pick them from the spot and drop them at their respective homes, without charging a penny,” Reddy said at the launch of his service last week, reported Hindustan Times.

While the service is still in its infancy, Reddy is expected to receive huge number of distress calls in coming months. As the state is gearing for assembly polls, free distribution of alcohol by political parties to voters and workers is a common occurrence.

Reddy, himself, doesn’t consume alcohol. However, he wants government to shut down liquor shops if it’s really concerned about the safety of people.
