Tablets Meant To Record Attendance in Chhattisgarh Schools Pop Up Porn Pics

Teachers, especially women, are refraining from touching the device because as soon as it is turned on, an obscene image pops up

In an attempt to streamline attendance system in the state-run-schools, the Human Resource Development ministry had last year handed out tablets in schools across Chhattisgarh.

However, the touchscreen technology ran into an unexpected problem after it started popping up pornographic images on the landing screen.

Teachers, particularly from schools in Durg, Surguja and Bastar districts, have complained that the tablets meant for recording attendance and to update information related to school activities show obscene pictures on the screen.

“The tablets come with Internet connection. So prima facie it seems that somebody, while watching or downloading some application, might have clicked on some spam message with obscene pictures,” state IT department project manager Nilesh Soni told PTI.

Now teachers, especially women, are refraining from touching the device because as soon as it is turned on, an obscene image pops up.

Meanwhile, district education officers have issued orders asking teachers not to use tablets until the problem is sorted out.

The CHiPS helpline has been flooded with calls over the past two days even as over 270 cases have already been resolved. IT experts are visiting schools to address complaints.

Some officials are also suspecting that the technical snag has been created on purpose by the teachers, who can use this as an excuse to avoid doing their job.

“There were reports that many teachers were against bio-metric attendance and they were looking for an excuse to get rid of it,” an official was quoted as saying to The Times of India.
