Student Calls BJP Govt 'Fascist', Gets Arrested

She has been sent to 15-day judicial custody.

A 28-year Indian student returning from Canada was arrested and sent to judicial custody for shouting anti-fascist slogans. The incident happened at Tuticorin airport on Monday when Lois Sofia, a research scholar, yelled “Down with Modi – BJP – RSS fascist government” in front of Tamil Nadu BJP chief Tamilsai Soundarajan. This enraged leader so much that she approached Tamil Nadu police. A case was filed against Sofia for “public nuisance” and “attempt to cause alarm”. She was sent to 15-day judicial custody and was granted bail a day later.

Meanwhile, Tamilsai supporters who were present at the airport allegedly misbehaved with Sofia.”When we reached the terminal, Tamilisai and some 10 men who received her at the airport surrounded us and bullied my daughter with abusive words. They issued death threats. Finally, the airport police came to our help and secured us in a room,” Sofia’s father Dr AA Sami told Indian Express.

He later filed a police complaint but no action has been taken against them.
