In a shocking case of sheer insensitivity, an elderly woman was forced to beg in front of a police inspector in Lucknow in order to get an FIR registered. In the video of the incident that has gone viral, the woman, in her early seventies, is seen pleading police to register an FIR in connection with her grandson’s death. She is seen begging with folded hands in front of SHO Tej Pratap Singh who seems visibly unmoved. He continues to remain seated with his legs crossed. Later, the helpless woman even falls to his feet to which he makes a feeble attempt to respond.
The incident took place outside Gudamba police station which, ironically, was declared India’s third-best police station as per an Intelligence Bureau survey in 2018. Meanwhile, the officer has been removed from his post and has been sent to the police lines.
The woman’s grandson, a labourer, had died due to the malfunctioning of a machine at the factory where he used to work. An FIR has been registered against the factory owner, Ajay Gupta. No arrests have been made so far.
