'Resign or will kill you and your family' RBI Governor Urjit Patel receive e-mail threat

Just months after taking over the office of the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Urjit Patel has received threat e-mails asking him to quit. The cyber crime cell of Mumbai police has managed to arrest 3 accused in connection with the e-mail threat.

In the e-mail, the person has reportedly threatened to kill Patel and his family if he didn’t resign from his post. According to a Times of India report, the person arrested by the police is an unemployed youth from Nagpur city of Maharashtra and have been booked under booked under the IPC section of 506(2) of threatening and Information Technology Act.

“Hi Mr Urjit, RBI Governor, my dear son, please quit the job, dont seat in the RBI, this is my right, otherwise, we will going to kill you, we will finish your family overnight, your lovely daughter, son will get killed in coming blast, without any bones remain in the body,” TOI quoted the excerpts from the e-mail as saying.

The incident took place last week after which a FIR was registered on February 28. The Cyber Crime cell managed to trace the location of the sender on the basis if the e-mail that was sent by him. The report further asserted thatVaibhav had admitted to have sent the e-mail. However, the police is also suspecting that the man could be mentally unstable.

Urjit Patel succeeded Raghuram Rajan in the month of September. He is the 24th governor of the Reserve Bank of India.
