Ramjas college agitation: AISA continues protest, Joint CP assures strict action

AISA is staging their protest against ABVP and Delhi Police outside the Police Headquarter and raising slogans 'Atyaachar se Azadi, ABVP se Azadi'

Amid the ongoing chaos in Delhi University’s Ramjas College, the student association All India Students’ Association (AISA) staged their protest against the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Delhi Police outside the Police Headquarter and shouted slogans ‘Atyaachar se Azadi, ABVP se Azadi‘ on February 23.

A clash broke out between All India Students’ Association (AISA) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists on February 22 in New Delhi over cancellation of JNU student Umar Khalid’s event at Delhi University’s Ramjas College. Umar Khalid was supposed to speak at the seminar organised by Literary Society of Ramjas College on ‘The War in Adivasi Areas’ on February 21. However, no injuries have been reported so far.

Earlier, another video had surfaced on the social media which showed numerous students raising protests for the freedom of students and raising slogans supporting the independence of Kashmir on February 22.

Meanwhile, Delhi police joint commissioner Dependra Pathak has assured of taking strict action against the policemen who manhandled the journalists and students yesterday. He said, “In North Campus, few policemen’s unprofessional actions has been noticed. The enquiry is underway while strict actions will be taken against them.”

“The situation is being monitored and in future, if there are any protests then we request students to remain peaceful,” he added.

On February 22, reacting to the cancellation of the event, the Principal of Ramjas College, Rajendra Prasad said that the event was cancelled after protests by students. Earlier on Tuesday, speaking to Indian Express, Debalin Roy, a student said, “Around 40-50 ABVP men stormed into the campus and started protested against Umar Khalid. The group soon turned abusive and assaulted us.”
