The Madras high court, on January 6, has dismissed a public interest litigation approaching Centre to hounour late Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa with Bharat Ratna Award.
Last month, the TN government passed a resolution in the very first cabinet meeting to recommend Jayalalithaa for the highest civilian honour of the country, Bharat Ratna. This was one of the many resolutions passed after Jayalalithaa passed away and O Panneerselvam succeeded her.
The state government had also decided to ask the centre for putting a life-size bronze statue of Jayalalithaa at the Parliament premises and raise a memorial building at the place where she was laid to rest.
The meeting condoled Jayalalithaa’s death saying the 68-year-old leader had dedicated her life for the betterment of Tamil Nadu and led the state towards massive growth in sectors like social welfare, education, and growth.
“We promise to work in the path made by Amma who is now watching us perform” from Marina where she was buried, the Ministers said, condoling her death.
