Pakistan now has its first transgender news reader. Maavia Malik, a model based in Lahore, has been hired by Kohenoor News, a local TV channel as their news anchor.
According to a BBC report, Malik is a journalism graduate who has also worked as a model.
On Friday, Malik anchored her first show on private broadcaster Kohenoor. She underwent three-month long training before she went live on camera.
“The dream that I saw for myself, I was able to climb on the first stair to achieving it,” Malik told BBC.
In 2014, India had its first transgender news reader when Padmini Prakash was hired by Lotus News, a Tamil news channel.
