Let's Not Forget That This Woman Lawyer Faced Death Threats During Kathua Trial

As the special court in Pathankot convicted 6 of the seven accused on June 10 in the Kathua gangrape & murder case, let us not forget the role of lawyer-activist Deepika Singh Rajawat who first represented the victim. The horrific incident had polarised the country when several Hindutva supporters came out in support of the accused. Rajawat, a Kashmiri Pandit, was accused of being anti-Hindu. She was subjected to harassment from her own community. She also had to face rape & death threats following which she was removed from the case during the course of the trial. The case was shifted out of Jammu to Pathankot. It was later taken up by lawyer Mubeen Farooqi
