Kapil Mohan, man behind the iconic Old Monk, passes away

Kapil Mohan, the 88-year-old teetotaler chairman of Mohan Meakin that makes the iconic Old Monk, passed away on 8th January 2018.

Mohan is said to have suffered from a fatal cardiac arrest at his residence in Ghaziabad, UP. After he took over the reins of the Dyer Meakin Breweries, he diversified the company, launched major brands like Old Monk and received a Padma Shri in 2010.

Launched in 1954, Old Monk was the largest selling dark rum in the world for a long time. It was also the biggest Indian-made foreign liquor brand for many years. This zesty dark rum is still pretty much a staple of many a get-together in India!
