IAS officer B Chandrakala is the new director of PM Modi's Swacch Bharat Mission

B Chandrakala earned a lot of praise after she publicly pulled up civic officials and contractors for sub-standard road construction in 2014

IAS officer B Chandrakala has been appointed as the director of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet project Swacch Bharat Mission. Additionally, she has also be discharging duty of deputy secretary in the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.

The 2008 batch officer earned a lot of praise on social media after she publicly pulled up civic officials and contractors for sub-standard road construction in 2014.

Chandrakala, has been associated with ‘Clean India’ campaign’ when she was the District Magistrate of Bulandshahr, Bijnor and Meerut. Apparently, it is Chandrakala’s commitment towards her work that earned her this reward. The Centre has lauded her initiatives to make Bijnor an ‘open defecation free’ (ODF) district.

The IAS officer’s appointment in Delhi came less than a week after Yogi Aditynatah was sworn in as the new chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. The new CM has  taken a slew of measures like the closure of illegal slaughter houses to banning plastic bags, Pan Masalas in government offices. The new chief minister also conducted surprise checks at several offices of state’s capital Lucknow.
