How Madurai Hotels Are Recycling Waste To Grow Vegetables

These hotels in association with Madurai Municipal corporation have decided to recycle their organic waste and use the manure to grow vegetables for self-use

Over 30 hotels in Mumbai have come up with a novel way to deal with its organic waste. These hotels in association with Madurai Municipal corporation have decided to recycle their kitchen waste and use the manure to grow vegetables for self-use under the ‘Smart Clean Green Madurai’ project.

Elaborating the process of recycling, K Thirupathi, managing director of  KT Greens said, the waste is collected by well-trained professionals in closed bins and taken to manufacturing unit at Pazhathottam near Sigaganga Road for recycling.

At the recycling plant, the waste is loaded onto the conveyor belt and workers segregate small plastic items. An organic shredder is used to crush the biodegradable waste into smaller particles which is then transferred to a long pit where it is treated with coconut water. After 21 days of processing, the waste becomes manure, which is used in land to grow vegetables.
