Grenade found at Red Fort in Delhi, NSG team reviewing the spot

As per initial reports, the grenade belongs to the world war era

A hand grenade was found at the Red Fort in Delhi on during the cleaning operations there. A team of National Security Guard (NSG) is reviewing the situation at the spot. As per initial reports, the grenade belongs to the world war era. Reports also suggest that the grenade was found in a diffused state.

A similar incident took place in February this year when a box with a grenade was found inside an old well at the Red Fort. Fire department officials had been informed after which fire tenders had been rushed to the spot. The box was located near the main entrance to Red Fort at Lahori Gate.

Like the incident on Friday, that grenade was also found during the cleaning of the well. Security officials were alerted after a suspicious looking object was found from the well. The grenade was found when the box was opened. A report in the Hindustan Times states that when the well was examined, at least 3 similar boxes were found from inside the well.

Commenting after the basic probe, the grenade Jatin Narwal, Delhi Commissioner of Police (DCP North) said: “NSG has safely removed the grenade from the Red Fort, preliminary inquiry suggests of it being a very old grenade.”
