Fifty Years Of India's First Rajdhani Express

On March 3, 2019, Howrah Rajdhani Express celebrated its golden jubilee.

It’s a historic day for the Indian Railways as Howrah Rajdhani, India’s first express train completed 50 years of service on March 3, 2019. The celebrations began with a cake cutting ceremony after which guests were greeted with special napkins, chocolates and greeting cards. With a top speed of more than 130 km/h, this iconic train runs between Howrah in West Bengal and New Delhi connecting Kanpur, Prayagraj, Mughal Sarai, Gaya, Asansol and Dhanbad. The distance of over 1400 km is covered in almost 17 hours. It is also India’s first fully air-conditioned train. The first Rajdhani train that started in 1969 only had nine coaches
But now, it has 20 coaches which are run by an electric engine. At present, there are 25 such Rajdhani trains that connect different state capitals with Delhi.
