Rehabilitation is in full swing as Odisha continues to rebuild itself days after the deadly Cyclone Fani ravaged India’s coastal state. While the state govt managed to evacuate more than 1 million people the damage has still been extensive. The total death toll stands at 64 with the worst-affected Puri district alone registering 39 deaths. As per the initial damage assessment, 5,08,467 houses were destroyed, 14 lakh trees were uprooted, 1 lakh hectares of agricultural land was affected. Over 30 per cent crop damage is being reported. The state govt is set to initiate official damage assessment from May 15. Those willing to help can donate to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
