Assuming Arnab Goswami Called Keralites "Shameless", Netizens Sink Channel's Rating

As of now, the rating on the Republic TV app on PlayStore stands at 1.4 with over 79,500 1-star reviews

Anchor Arnab Goswami seems to have come under fire again on social media as netizens decided to act on a clip apparently throwing bad light on Kerala flood victims — by targetting his channel, Republic TV.

According to a clip that is being widely circulated on social media, Goswami said “this group is the most shameless bunch of Indians I have ever seen”, and people have largely assumed that Goswami referred to Kerala flood victims. The clip is taken from a debate on whether the United Arab Emirates (UAE) actually offered Rs 700 crore to Kerala as relief aid, which the Centre then turned down despite Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan requesting that aid to the flood-ravaged state not be denied.

Angry with Goswami’s assumed critique of the Kerala flood victims, thousands of netizens descended on Republic TV’s app on PlayStore and logged 1-star reviews, with many calling the channel “fascist”, “shameless” and “bogus” as well as termed Goswami an “incorrigible liar”.

As of now, the rating on the Republic TV app on PlayStore stands at 1.4 with over 79,500 1-star reviews.

However, the anger might be misplaced as the clip seems to be lacking context as Goswami had been rallying against ‘politicians who take advantage of people’ throughout the debate. In the same debate, he called the flood victims “psychologically resilient”.

Last year as well, Republic TV’s rating on both PlayStore and Facebook plummeted from 5.0 to as low as 2.1 when the channel was accused of “peddling propaganda against people who represent certain political ideologies and against states like Kerala”. However, the ratings were soon balanced after tens of thousands of new 5-star ratings were applied on the page to counterbalance negative ratings.
