A Madrassa Where Hindus And Muslims Study Together

A Madrassa in Gujarat’s Surat is changing the general perception that the religious seminary is only meant for Muslims students.

Based in the city’s Motavarachha locality, Madresa Islamiya High School has emerged as a joint symbol of communal harmony and diversity.

Over 70 per cent of the students at the seminary are Hindus while the rest are Muslims. It celebrates every festival with equal fervour and gaiety.

The Madrassa does not let any student drop out for lack of funds. So far, it has helped 400 students from the poor economic background in the forms of fees, their uniforms, textbooks.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Suleiman Ghulam Hussain, principal, Madresa Islamiya High School, said: ” Here students are taught from KG to class 12th. 70% of students here are Hindus and 30% Muslims. Students do not only come from Motavarachha (school’s locality in Surat), students from nearby villages also come for education.”
