Saif Ali Khan already has three upcoming movies, Baazaar, Kaalakaandi, and Chef, and now he has been roped-in for another project. The 46-year-old Bollywood actor will be making his debut on web series with his upcoming Netflix Original series titled Sacred Games. Based on the 2006 best-selling Vikram Chandra novel of the same name, Sacred Games is the first Netflix Original series made in India.
Sacred Games, which will be produced in collaboration with Phantom Films, outlines the life of Inspector Sartaj Singh, as delves deeper into the criminal underworld in the city of Mumbai and the man at its eye, amid a crisis in his personal life.
Talking about his decision to do a Netflix series, Saif Ali Khan said, “Content in the digital space is taking over the existing dynamics at a rapid pace.”
He added, “The crown in the digital empire lies with Netflix, and it’s extremely satisfying to partner and participate in the first original series from India to be showcased on Netflix.”
For someone like the Nawab of Bollywood to step into web series is truly remarkable. “Saif Ali Khan is a true pioneer and risk-taker in Indian cinema, and we could not be more delighted to be working with him on Sacred Games,” said Erik Barmack, who is the vice president of international original series at Netflix.
Speaking about the character, Barmack said, “His role is layered and complex, and we are thrilled to be working with such a fantastic actor to bring this story to a global audience.”
Whether or not Saif manages to do a satisfying job of Sartaj Singh remains to be seen. Previously, the actor has impressed audiences with his roles in films like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Omkara, and Dil Chahta Hai to name a few.
