WATCH: Even Begum Jaan trailer is a frame to frame copy of the original Rajkahini. Vidya Balan is no Rituparna Ghosh

The trailer of Vidya Balan's upcoming film Begum Jaan is here and it shows the actress in the role of a fierce and gutsy brothel madam

Finally, the wait is over! Trailer of Vidya Balan’s upcoming film Begun Jaan is here and it looks amazing. The 3-minute video will definitely give you goosebumps and is gripping. However, if you have watched the original Bengali version Rajkahini and Rituparna Ghosh’s performance, comparison are obvious. The trailer seems frame to frame copy of the original film trailer minus the full rendition of the national anthem by Tagore.

Helmed by national award winning director Srijit Mukherji, the film is a Hindi adaptation of his critically acclaimed Bengali movie, and is set in the backdrop of partition. The story is that of a brothel owner and depicts the struggle and challenges faced by the sex workers community.

The trailer has some really strong and powerful dialogues including the one in which Vidya says, ‘Bheekmangon ki tarah nahin, Rani ki tarah maroongi. Apne mahal mein.’

The posters have already made the audience curious about the film and the trailer of Begum Jaan proves that the wait was worth it. Before releasing the trailer, the whole star cast of the film did a Facebook live session and gave a sneak peak into their character and the film as well.

When Mahesh Bhatt was asked to define the film, he simply took out a meaningful quote from the film and recited it in his own style. Here is what he said, “Hum apne dard ki shiddat ko kam nahi karte, zara si baat pe aankhon ko nam nahi karte…bane banaye raaston pe chalte nahi hain hum, jo aur karte hain wo hum nahi karte.”

Like her other award-winning performances,  Vidya Balan continues to play strong woman-oriented character in this film. Apart from Vidya, the film also stars Gauhar Khan, Naseeruddin Shah and Ashish Vidyarthi in pivotal roles. Begum Jaan is slated to hit the screens on April 14 this year.
