'The Accidental Prime Minister' Trailer's All About Weird Accents And Stereotypes

The trailer of The Accidental Prime Minister is here and we've our reservations about it.

The trailer of the much-hyped biographical political drama on economist and politician Manmohan Singh, is here. Directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, The Accidental Prime Minister stars Anupam Kher in the titular role.

While the team nailed the look of our former Prime Minister, we are not very sure about Kher nailing anything else about the man who was ridiculed throughout his tenure for rarely ever speaking up. While Kher speaks in a strangely low-volume, raspy voice and tries to copy Singh’s body language, Suzanne Bernert as Sonia Gandhi speaks like every comic who has tried to parody the former president of the Indian National Congress.

The film is based on the 2014 memoir of the same name, written by political commentator and the former PM’s media adviser, Sanjaya Baru. Akshaye Khanna seems to be having loads of fun playing Baru’s character, going by the trailer. There are glimpses of Aahana Kumra as Priyanka Gandhi and Arjun Mathur as Rahul Gandhi in the trailer as well. But, it is Khanna who makes the most lasting impression just like he did in Ittefaq. He is continuing his winning streak from Mom.

Watch the trailer here to know why we’ve our reservations about it.:

The film is all set to release on January 11, 2019.
