Sushant Singh Rajput reacts to 'leader' MS Dhoni's resignation, calls it a wise decision

MS Dhoni has stepped down as the captain of Indian cricket team in ODI and T20. Sushant Singh Rajput has a lot to comment on this decision

Cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni has stepped down as the skipper of India’s One-Day International (ODI) and T20 International sides. Ending the wonderful innings as the captain, MSD informed the Board Of Cricket control in India (BCCI) about his decision on Wednesday, 4 January 2016.

Dhoni had already retired from Test Cricket in 2014 and had captained India to 110 wins from 199 ODIs and 41 wins from 72 T20Is since his debut in the game in 2004. Announcing his resignation, BCCI Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rahul Johri said:

On behalf of every Indian cricket fan and the BCCI, I would like to thank M.S. Dhoni for his outstanding contribution as the captain of the Indian team across all formats. Under his leadership, Indian team has touched new heights and his achievements will remain etched forever in the annals of Indian cricket.

The news has come as a shock and utter disappointment for many Dhoni fans, including actor Sushant Singh Rajput who had portrayed the cricketer on screen in his biopic — MS Dhoni: The Untold Story last year. Claiming that he had no idea of the news in advance, the actor talked to dna and said:

No, I don’t know the reason and I am really saddened by the news. Knowing him we can say that it must be a wise decision and it also explains why he is one of the best leaders we have had. He doesn’t share his personal stuff with anyone, the nation and the team always comes first for him. I’m gonna miss him dearly as the captain of Indian cricket team.

He added that he doesn’t want to comment on whether Dhoni’s decision is right or wrong but he will always cherish his game. Sushant elaborated:

I am not an expert to comment on that and this is probably not the right time to comment about it. It is the time when we should just take out some time and remember the way this man has so selflessly and successfully led the Indian team for a decade.
