Suniel Shetty backs Akshay Kumar's National Award win, says Khiladi 'respects the uniform' he wears in his films

Suniel Shetty says Akshay Kumar deserves a National Award because his career graph is great. He adds that no actor respects the uniform more than Akshay

Akshay Kumar’s National Award win for his last year release, Rustom, raised many eyebrows. With many criticising the choice, people seemed divided on the social media. In fact, some also claimed that even if Akshay was to be given an award, his performance in Airlift deserved the one than in Rustom. After days of the controversy, now actor Suniel Shetty has also commented on the issue.

When asked about his reaction on Akshay winning the award, the Anna of Bollywood said that one should look at his entire career and not just at one film. He also added that the decision of honouring Akshay with a National Award could have been made keeping in mind his contribution in Hindi cinema. He said:

This is completely wrong. Akshay has given so many hits. Why are you looking at just one film? Look at his career. He has been there for more than 100 films. He deserves the honour. Maybe he has been given this honour looking at his graph and growth in films over the years. There are very few actors who give respect to the uniform when they get into it. Akshay is one of them.

Akshay will be in the capital on Wednesday to receive the honour.

Suniel, who has worked with Akshay in films like Aan: Men At Work, Dhadkan, Hera Pheri and Sapoot also said:

When in the beginning his 13 films didn’t work, many said that Akshay is finished and his career is over. But, now he is giving Rs 100 crore films every time. Akshay needs to forget this and doesn’t need to feel bad about it. If not for Rustom, then think that he has got the award for Airlift.
