Salman Khan, who is busy promoting his upcoming film Tubelight express his feelings over the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the film industry. While addressing a press conference on the World Environment Day, he was asked to express his views on government’s decision for announcing 28% tax slab under the GST for cinema.
Responding to the question, the Dabangg Khan said he has no problem with the GST in the film industry. “Whatever the government has done, they must have done it with proper planning,” he said in a statement.
After Siddharth Roy Kapoor and Kamal Hassan, Salman is the latest from the Bollywood to express his views over the GST in the film industry.
Veteran actor Kamal Hassan has opposed the proposed GST Bill in the entertainment industry. He said, the bill is not good for the regional cinema and would affect it badly. He also asked the Centre to roll back the decision.
Haasan threatened that he would leave cinema if the proposed decision to implement 28% GST on film industry is not brought down to 12-18%.
“We wholeheartedly welcome GST and One India, One Tax. But the current rate needs to be revised, otherwise, it will run regional cinema. At the present rate, I can’t afford the tax and I’ll be forced to quit. We should remember this is not East India Company,” Kamal said.
Kamal Haasan argued that that Hollywood, Bollywood and regional cinema can’t be put on the same slab. He also was against the idea of fixed price of movie tickets across India.
Well the stars of the industry seems divided on the GST for the Indian cinema. We will have to wait and watch, how GST will affect the industry once it comes into effect from July 1.
