'Sacred Games 2' Finally Has A Release Date. Good Luck Containing Your Excitement!

Sacred Games 2 will see the likes of Kalki Koechlin and Ranvir Shorey joining a cast where Pankaj Tripathi takes the stage as the main antagonist.

Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap’s Sacred Games has entered the second phase, and now we even have a release date for it. Sacred Games 2 will begin streaming on August 15 on Netflix. After the first season’s stellar success, the streaming giant only took a few weeks to announce the second season. Apart from re-establishing Saif Ali Khan & Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the leading men, it also established a stellar ensemble of actors like – Rajshri Deshpande (Subhadra), Jatin Sarna (Bunty), Kubbra Sait (Kukkoo) and Jitendra Joshi (Katekar) among many, many others.

The second season has some interesting additions to the cast – Ranvir Shorey and Kalki Koechlin. From the looks of the trailer of Sacred Games 2, Shorey seems to be playing the role of a twisted cop… the ‘encounter specialist’-type. While Koechlin seems to be playing something modeled on Maa Anand Sheela, the right-hand woman to Pankaj Tripathi’s self-styled Godman.

The stakes have only gone further up in the second season, as someone briefly mentions ‘Hiroshima-Nagasaki’. An atom bomb to wipe out Mumbai? Probably. Sacred Games 2 has been in production during the final quarter of 2018 and the first half of 2019. There were several reports of the second season being shot in South Africa, suggesting that underworld kingpin, Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) probably fled from his scrap kingdom in Mumbai.

The second season of Sacred Games sees Neeraj Ghaywan sharing directorial duties with Anurag Kashyap, while Motwane stays on board as the showrunner. The first season witnessed an explosive response (if memes on the Internet are a metric), let’s see if the interest is renewed in the second season.
