Rangoon Box Office collections Day 5: Shahid, Kangana fail to impress the audience

Saif Ali Khan-Kangana Ranaut-Shahid Kapoor starrer Rangoon is going steady at the box office after four days of its theatrical release

Saif Ali Khan, Kangana Ranaut and Shahid Kapoor starrer Rangoon is going steady at the box office within four days of its theatrical release. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, the World War II drama generated a lot of hype before it hit the theatres on 24 February.

The film raked in Rs 6.07 crore on its opening day and garnered Rs 7.50 crore on Saturday. Sunday was no different for the movie as Vishal Bharadwaj’s Rangoon earned nearly 6 crores on the day thereby taking the total tally to 18 crores approximately. It continues to face stiff competition from Akshay Kumar-starrer courtroom drama Jolly LLB 2, which is still going strong at the box office. The flick has already crossed the Rs 100 crore mark and is unstoppable.

As far as Rangoon is concerned, the film received mixed reviews from the critics and fans alike. The film has been criticised for its length, i.e. it is around 3 hours and 15 minutes long. However, the performances of three lead actors have been applauded.

The film was embroiled in legal tangles after Wadia Movietone Pvt Ltd filed a commercial suit against the makers, alleging Kangana’s character was based on yesteryear stunt heroine and actor Mary Ann Evans popularly known as Fearless Nadia. The Wadias accused the makers of lifting at least 19 scenes from Hunterwali for Rangoon.

It is being said that the movie failed to impress the audience altogether. In fact, on Monday the movie found it hard to rake in money. The total tally of Rangoon has been reported to be around 20 crores in all. This is quite surprising keeping in mind that the movie was touted as one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

Recently, Kangana Ranaut said that she was not confident of getting the appreciation she expected as some of the brilliant scenes performed by her were deleted from the final cut. According to the National Award-winning actor, it was Vishal Bhardwaj who explained her the reasons why her scenes were chopped off. It should be mentioned that as many as 70 scenes were omitted from the final cut to shorten the film’s length.
