Plot:

The story is set in the backdrop of 1980’s Gujarat. It dwells on the life of a man called Raees (Shah Rukh Khan) who wants to make it big. His life has a simple funda which is based on his mother’s teaching: ‘Koi bhi dhandha chota nahi hota’. The movie explores the rise and fall of Raees who builds up an empire from the scratch.

His philosophy in business makes him the most feared man in the state of Gujarat. Soon, situations take a drastic turn with the entry of Majmudar (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), who is on a spree to end Raees’s raj. The film revolves around the epic clash between the two.

Characterisation

Shah Rukh Khan as Raees is nothing but a larger-than-life portrayal of the man who becomes a cult by gaining public’s trust. Raees has a golden heart and an impeccable business sense that helps him rise. We have seen Shah Rukh Khan do wonderful roles in the past and this one is definitely an add-on to that list. Miyan Bhai SRK stole the thunder with his power packed performance.

Shah Rukh’s character opens up in layers. His romantic side with Mahira looked beautiful on the big screen. His anger as a shrewd businessman did give us goosebumps, especially when someone called him battery saala and we all know what happens next.

Mahira Khan looked charming on the big screen. Her chemistry with superstar SRK worked wonders, but in parts. Zeeshan Ayyub’s character seemed relatable. His portrayal of SRK’s ally did give us an impression that each and every person has one such friend on whom you can rely upon.

Sunny Leone’s cameo is dreamy and iconic at the same time. Interestingly, Nawazuddin’s portrayal of the officer stole the limelight. He did give tough competition to Shah Rukh in the film as his acting prowess was on full display. Though, the film could have been edited way more sharply. This 2 hours 40 minutes film has a lot of adrenaline rushing action sequences.

All in all, the movie is a full masala entertainer. The songs of the movie have already been liked by the fans with Laila O Laila topping the chartbusters. For Shah Rukh fans, there is no reason to miss this one. For others, you will fall in love with Raees. The cat and mouse chase between Shah Rukh and Nawaz is the highlight. The stellar performances of Zeeshan and Mahira leave quite an impression. After a long time, Shah Rukh is coming back with what we expect him to do the best!
