Anil Kapoor was beaming with joy yesterday as his daughter Sonam Kapoor was felicitated by President of India for her performance in Neerja

For Sonam Kapoor and the team of 2016 release Neerja, yesterday was really special. The actress got a special mention at the National Film Awards and was felicitated by the President of India at the hall at Vigyan Bhavan. Her father Anil Kapoor captured the special moment on the camera and seemed obviously happy. Taking to Twitter, Anil Kapoor shared a picture of her daughter receiving the award and said how proud he was.

The way Anil Kapoor clicked pictures of Sonam surely made for an adorable moment. “Nothing can be bigger than this award. President Pranab Mukherjee and the Government of India have given this award to Sonam, so this day is really big and important for me, my family and Sonam. It is a very well deserved award for Neerja,” the 60-year-old was quoted by ANI.

Anil Kapoor captioned the image as, “Clearly cannot contain my excitement! Father turns photographer! Congratulations @sonamakapoor !! So proud!! #NationalFilmAwards.”

After the event, Anil Kapoor tweeted pictures from it hinting how elated he was.

Apart from Anil and wife Sunita Kapoor, Sonam’s felicitation was also attended by his rumoured beau Anand Ahuja. Speaking about the win, Sonam earlier told a leading daily that she was nervous. She revealed that when the awards were announced, the biggest compliment came from her father. Anil told Sonam that she deserved the award and she shouldn’t think otherwise.

Neerja, released last year, narrated the story of Neerja Bhanot, a Pan Am purser, who lost her life while saving the passengers when the Pan Am was hijacked at Karachi airport on September 5, 1986.

Meanwhile, Anil Kapoor was all praises for his Welcome and Humko Deewaana Kar Gaye co-star Akshay Kumar too. When asked about Kumar getting his first National award, he quipped, “Congratulations to him! Der aaye par durust aaye!”

Akshay was conferred with his first even National Award for his movie Rustom.
