Off to the moon, literally: Aamir Khan to play astronaut Rakesh Sharma in biopic

Aamir Khan who played the role of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat in Dangal will now be seen as an astronaut in his upcoming film

After wowing the fans with his mindboggling acting in Dangal, Aamir Khan is all set to star in another biopic. Mr Perfectionist of Bollywood is all set to play astronaut Rakesh Sharma in an upcoming film titled Salute and will be helmed by Mahesh Mathai. Rakesh Sharma was the first Indian to go space and his biopic will be jointly produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Aamir Khan. It will be released in 2018, suggest media reports.

Earlier there were speculations that this film will be called Saare Jahan Se Acha. This title seemed legit because when Rakesh Sharma was asked by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, how India looked from space he replied, ‘Saare Jahan Se Acha’.

The director of Salute, Mahesh Mathai has been critically acclaimed for his films like Bhopal Express and Broken Threads.

Apart from Aamir, there is yet another Bollywood actor who will play the role of an astronaut. Sushant Singh Rajput will be seen in Chandamama Door Ke, in which he will be seen playing an astronaut. The actor has even started prepping up for his role and regularly posts pictures of the same on social media. Apart from Sushant, the film also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and R Madhavan in important roles.

It will definitely be worth seeing how these two actors pull off the roles of astronauts. While Aamir Khan is known to go to great lengths to get into the skin of the character, Sushant is no less either. For his titular role in M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, he underwent physical changes and also learned the nuances of the game.

It won’t be wrong to expect amazing work from both these actors in their respective films.

Apart from this film, Aamir Khan will be seen in Secret Superstar and Thugs of Hindostan.
